Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann met with British Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett on July 21, 2025, to discuss strengthening ties in the areas of textiles, horticulture, education, light engineering, sports, and defense. “Punjab and the UK share a historic bond, strengthened by the Punjabi diaspora,” Mann said. He emphasized the importance of structured agreements to promote growth.
These collaborations could drive innovation and prosperity, particularly in the fields of education and manufacturing. Mann proposed a direct communication framework to exchange expertise. The upcoming India-UK free trade agreement is expected to enhance opportunities, as per Rowett. Such partnerships will create jobs and boost Punjab’s economy.
Mann raised concerns about visa fraud, where agents exploit youth with false promises. “Families suffer immense losses due to illegal practices,” he noted. He urged the UK to collaborate on a strategy to guide people toward legal visa channels.
Rowett highlighted the UK’s ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign, offering reliable information via a WhatsApp chatbot. Both sides agreed to raise awareness about safe migration. This joint effort aims to protect vulnerable youth and ensure transparency.
