A commission of five members, led by retired judge Mainul Islam Chowdhury, recently presented Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, with a report entitled ‘Unfolding the Truth’. The report asserted, ‘India’s involvement in the forced disappearances within Bangladesh is a public record.’ However, in a prior interim report, the commission had accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of facilitating these disappearances. Shortly thereafter, responsibility shifted to India in the final report.

It noted, ‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs should seek to identify Bangladeshis imprisoned in India.
