Haryana’s Crime Plunges with Smart Policing claims government

Pointers

  • Crime rates in Haryana dropped significantly from 2014 to 2024.
  • CM Nayab Singh Saini emphasizes the need for strict action against criminals.
  • The Special Task Force has arrested 433 most-wanted criminals since 2023.
  • Digital surveillance and fast-track courts enhance public safety.
Haryana’s Robust Strategy Slashes Crime Rates Across the State
Haryana’s government has transformed the state’s safety landscape through its “Zero Tolerance for Crime” policy. From 2014 to 2024, crime rates plummeted, with murder cases dropping from 1,106 to 966, a clear win for law enforcement. Robbery fell by 30.13%, rape by 26.14%, and kidnapping by 16.67% in the first half of 2025 compared to 2024.
The state’s focus on dismantling gang networks and curbing cybercrime has paid off. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s hands-on approach, including regular reviews with police officials, ensures accountability.
“Our priority is a safe Haryana,” Saini said at a recent meeting. The government’s data-driven strategy, backed by the Haryana State Crime Records Bureau, counters opposition claims of rising crime, revealing a steep decline compared to the 2004–2014 Congress era’s 18.69% annual crime surge. Community policing initiatives, like local safety forums, further engage citizens, fostering trust and cooperation.
Special Task Force Targets Organized Crime with Global Reach
The Special Task Force (STF) has been a game-changer since 2023, arresting 433 most-wanted criminals and 248 gangsters. By coordinating with central agencies, STF issued 83 Look Out Circulars and 37 Red Corner Notices, targeting fugitives abroad.
Nine international criminals were extradited, disrupting their operations in Haryana. “STF’s relentless pursuit ensures no criminal escapes justice,” said a senior police official. Extradition efforts continue for fugitives in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

The STF’s use of advanced analytics to track criminal networks has led to the dismantling of significant gangs. Public awareness campaigns about cybercrime, coupled with dedicated helplines, empower citizens to report threats. This multi-pronged approach, which combines technology and global cooperation, sets a new standard for tackling organized crime, making Haryana a more challenging environment for criminals to operate.

Technology and Fast-Track Courts Bolster Public Safety Measures
Haryana’s investment in technology has revolutionized policing. Expanded CCTV networks, upgraded women’s helplines, and modernized crime control rooms ensure swift responses to emergencies. Fast-track courts have accelerated justice, reducing case backlogs by 20% since 2023, according to judicial records.
“These courts deliver justice faster, restoring public faith,” noted a Chandigarh court official. Digital surveillance at police stations now covers 85% of urban areas, helping to deter crime. The state’s innovative mobile app for real-time crime reporting has logged over 10,000 complaints since its launch in 2024, enhancing responsiveness.
Community workshops on women’s safety and cybercrime prevention have educated over 50,000 residents in 2025 alone. These measures, combined with Saini’s strict directives, create a safer environment, positioning Haryana as a model for proactive law enforcement across India.
