The meeting underscored a robust crackdown on illegal abortions, with Rajpal directing officials to escalate enforcement and pursue strict action, including license cancellations, against complicit doctors.
Rajpal zeroed in on BAMS doctors and quacks operating illegally in Karnal, Palwal, Gurugram, and Charkhi Dadri, ordering Deputy Commissioners to shut down abortion centres and halt MTP kit sales. He mandated regular District Task Force meetings, holding Chief Medical Officers and SAHELIS (pregnancy companions) accountable for any abortions. Coordination with the police for raids was also emphasized, alongside issuing show-cause notices to negligent Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).
The meeting highlighted progress: Haryana’s sex ratio climbed to 943 last week, up from previous figures. Inspections led to the seizure of 2 MTP kits, a drop in wholesalers from 32 to 3 in six weeks, and a sales decline across 14 districts. Two FIRs, one shop sealing, and cases of overcharging under the EC Act were reported. In Kurukshetra, a portable sex determination machine was seized, and two repeat offenders arrested.
To prevent illegal sex selection, Rajpal directed officials to revalidate IVF centre data and monitor operations closely, promising penalties for violations. He also sought detailed reports from 124 Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) of Community Health Centres, ordering disciplinary action against Palwal’s negligent SMO. Secretary of Health Rippudaman Singh Dhillon and senior officials attended the meeting, reinforcing the state’s commitment to this cause.
