Criminals Fled Punjab Amid ‘War Against Drugs’: Minister 

Chandigarh, March 29: Punjab Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar revealed that over 90% of criminals have fled the state following the government’s aggressive ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign. He stated that the Punjab Police has taken swift and decisive action, making it clear that crime will not be tolerated.
At a press conference held at the Chandigarh Party Office, Bhullar highlighted the campaign’s success and shared data on police operations conducted from March 1 to March 28.
Massive Drug Seizures and Arrests: During this period, authorities have seized 153 kg of heroin, over 87 kg of opium, and more than ₹5.83 crore in cash.
Registered 2,483 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Arrested 4,280 drug traffickers across the state.
Confiscated 8.5 lakh pills, 2,014 kg of poppy husk, 46 kg of cannabis, 6.3 kg of charas, and 514 narcotic injections.
Additionally, the police have demolished 49 illegally built properties belonging to drug traffickers and seized vehicles, mobile phones, and weapons linked to drug operations.
Criminals on the Run
Bhullar stated that the ongoing crackdown has forced thousands of drug traffickers and criminals to flee Punjab. Many have left the state, while others are hiding in the homes of distant relatives.
“No one involved in drug-related activities will be spared,” he warned. “Punjab Police is committed to eliminating this menace.”
Minister’s Appeal to Youth: Avoid the Trap of Gangsters
Bhullar urged Punjab’s youth to stay away from criminal activities, emphasizing that involvement in drugs and gangs leads to lifelong consequences.
“Gangsters sitting abroad lure young people with money, only to exploit them for illegal activities,” he said.
He also cautioned that those injured during police encounters suffer permanent disabilities. “Getting shot in the leg means lifelong damage,” he warned.
New Laws to Strengthen Crackdown on Crime
During the recent budget session, the Punjab Government passed a bill allowing the transfer of dangerous criminals and terrorists between states. Bhullar said this move will instill fear among criminals and enhance police efficiency.
₹438 Crore Allocated to Combat Drugs and Crime
The government has earmarked ₹438 crore in the latest budget to intensify the fight against drugs and crime, including:₹150 crore for drug surveys.,₹110 crore for anti-drone systems to prevent cross-border drug trafficking.
Successful trials of anti-drone technology have already been conducted in Tarn Taran. These drones can monitor areas up to 10 kilometers and will be used to intercept and neutralize illegal drones entering Punjab’s borders.
“The fight against drugs is our top priority,” Bhullar declared. “We will not rest until Punjab is free from this menace.”
