Chaudhary Abhay Singh Chautala, National President of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Haryana government, accusing it of being the “biggest enemy” of farmers. Addressing the media in Chandigarh, Chautala alleged that the government’s negligence has left farmers in dire straits, grappling with financial ruin and bureaucratic exploitation. He exposed a massive scam involving crores of rupees in crop compensation funds in Fatehabad district, where corrupt officials siphoned off money meant for farmers devastated by natural calamities.
Chautala painted a grim picture of the plight of farmers, who toil tirelessly and invest heavily in their crops, only to see their efforts destroyed by storms, heavy rains, and hailstorms. “Instead of supporting farmers in their hour of need, the BJP government allows its officials to loot the compensation meant for them,” he charged. In Fatehabad, farmers whose crops were ruined by natural disasters have been forced to run from one office to another, seeking their rightful compensation. Meanwhile, corrupt officials allegedly diverted crores of rupees into fake accounts by manipulating names, leaving genuine farmers empty-handed. “This is not just negligence; it’s a betrayal of the farming community,” Chautala asserted.
Transitioning to the broader issue of systemic corruption, Chautala claimed that rampant scams across all departments have marred the BJP’s decade-long rule. “Corruption has taken deep roots, and it thrives under the government’s patronage,” he said, arguing that such widespread malfeasance is impossible without official protection. In the Fatehabad scam, officials, including naib tehsildars, tehsildars, and patwaris, were found complicit, yet no concrete action has been taken against them. Chautala criticized the government’s investigations as mere eyewash, alleging that after a delay of two to three years, guilty officers are often given a clean chit and rewarded with even more lucrative postings. “This is a mockery of justice and an insult to farmers,” he declared.
Moreover, Chautala highlighted the government’s failure to address the farmers’ plight with sincerity. He pointed out that while farmers struggle to recover from crop losses, the administration’s focus remains on shielding corrupt officials rather than delivering justice. “The government’s indifference has pushed farmers into despair,” he said, urging immediate and transparent action to punish the guilty and ensure compensation reaches the rightful beneficiaries. He called for a robust mechanism to prevent such scams and protect farmers from bureaucratic exploitation.
In a passionate appeal, Chautala emphasized that the BJP’s policies have systematically failed Haryana’s farmers. “The government must stop shielding corrupt officials and start prioritizing the welfare of those who feed the nation,” he demanded. He vowed that the INLD would continue to raise its voice against such injustices and fight for the rights of farmers. As the state grapples with the fallout of this scandal, Chautala’s allegations underscore the urgent need for accountability and reform to restore trust among Haryana’s farming community.
