Over 100 attendees of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit, held in Zhengzhou, Henan, explored Luoyang. This ancient capital, with over 5,000 years of civilization, captivated guests with its historical depth and modern dynamism.
Known as the cradle of Chinese civilization and a key hub on the Silk Road, Luoyang served as the capital for 13 dynasties. Its urban history spans nearly 4,000 years, with 1,500 years as a political center. Today, Luoyang thrives as a vital industrial base, having hosted seven of 156 national projects during China’s first Five-Year Plan (1953-1957).
The city now drives global connectivity through the Belt and Road Initiative, with China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains running continuously. “Luoyang bridges the past and future seamlessly,” a guest remarked. The visit showcased the city’s ability to preserve heritage while embracing progress, leaving a lasting impression.
Reviving the Splendor of the Silk Road and the Tang Dynasty
The Site Museum of Dingding Gate transported SCO guests to the Silk Road’s golden era. A vibrant reenactment of the ancient city entrance ceremony, complete with performers in flowing Hanfu robes, mesmerized visitors. The traditional cross-handed salute, a gesture of elegance, left guests in awe. “I’ve never seen such grace,” one attendee noted.
At the Tang-style cultural restaurant, Wuhuang Shengyan, guests immersed themselves in the Tang Dynasty’s opulence. Amid intricate decor, they enjoyed authentic dishes while music and dance filled the air.
Many joined performers onstage, swept up in the festive atmosphere. “It’s like stepping into a Tang painting,” a guest exclaimed. The experience lingered, with visitors promising to share Luoyang’s cultural brilliance with the world. This blend of history and immersive storytelling highlighted Luoyang’s role as a living museum of China’s past, captivating modern audiences.

At the Dongfanghong Innovation Hub of YTO Group Corporation, guests were treated to a demonstration of Luoyang’s industrial strength. They explored cutting-edge farm machinery, with some testing new tractors on display. “Luoyang’s blend of tradition and technology is inspiring,” a foreign guest said.
The hub showcased China’s contributions to global agriculture, supporting food security in multiple nations. Guests expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations. At the Longmen Grottoes, the group marveled at the intricate stone carvings, particularly the Giant Vairocana Buddha. “This is a global treasure,” a visitor remarked, advocating for stronger tourism ties to promote cultural exchange.
Luoyang’s fusion of ancient art and modern innovation left guests inspired. The visit, part of the SCO Summit, underscored the city’s unique ability to connect civilizations while driving progress, ensuring its story resonates worldwide.
