Iranian human rights advocate and the recipient of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, Narges Mohammadi, has been temporarily freed from the infamous Evin prison to receive treatment for a suspected cancer diagnosis.
Iranian officials have allowed her a medical leave of 21 days to recover from her surgery, citing serious health concerns as the reason for the temporary halt of her prison sentence.
Mohammadi faces considerable medical challenges. Recent MRI examinations have shown worsening arthritis and disc disease. Additionally, after suffering a heart attack in 2021, doctors have recommended an angiogram for one of her heart arteries.
